Hello, my friends. Did you notice any difference on my blog? I have been working on my blog and logo for past couple days. It is an interesting but very time-consuming process. I was finding any free resource to create logos. I really like the blog theme I am having now, and I feel so thankful that it works on WordPress.com. It is around $50 USD and has a lot of features. I will talk about it later. Let’s talk about my logo first.
I have been using the above logo for almost a year now. I made it with free online tools. I was thinking to make it a higher resolution and bigger version, but I finally decided to make a completely new and colored logo. I got this font from dafont.com, and make my logo using FireAlpaca. These two are free tools, and I highly recommend using FireAlpaca. I am getting used to drawing on different layers. It really helps me to decide colors, style, and background. I think if I have more time, I can use it to make intro and outro for my videos. I have searched on Fiverr to see if I can pay someone to make a logo for my blog, but I want everything from my blog is created by myself so I have to kill my poor brain cells to make one. Well, I am not rich enough to spend money trying different logo styles. If I am rich, I probably spend money to take some classes learning how to create my own website instead of buying a theme.
When I was looking for a blog theme, I found a site called creativemarket.com. You can find fonts, graphics, themes, etc. I personally don’t recommend buying fonts since dafont.com has enough fonts for free, and most fonts on creativemarket.com are really similar. If you like your handwriting, you can draw or write your own on FireAlpaca. My handwriting is horrible so I have to find fonts online.
I got a theme called TUULIKKI. It includes a shop design that I really like. I have deactivated it for now since I don’t have anything to sell yet. I like the theme is clean and easy to navigate. I also like it has a lot of sidebars. I think once I edit all my blog pictures and colors, it will look very pretty. The only problem I have is the font size. I think the fonts on my blog is too small. Anyone know how to modify CSS to make the font size bigger? I really need to spend time on it too. These days, I just learned how to set up the theme and make it the way like it is in the demo, and change colors. I need to test it on different devices too. I want to make sure it works for everyone.
Since WordPress.com updates and add more features, it is more like WordPress.org now. I am having the business plan so it gives me a lot of freedom. I don’t think it is necessary to have a self-host anymore. If I have any issue with my website, I can just ask the WordPress team to fix it. If I have a self-host, I would need to deal it by myself. It is the waste of my time and cannot guarantee I can fix it. It is not fun if one of the webpages is not working, and you spend days to fix it. In terms of the price, I think WordPress.com is a little bit expensive compared to WordPress.org, but I think this extra money is to spend for extra service. Move to self-host, try to set up a server, add security, and deal with any technical issues are not my jam. I don’t know if people move to WordPress.org notice. We cannot read their full post on the reader and need to go to their site. It is not convenient and may lose few readers. I don’t know if moving to WordPress.org can drive more traffic since no one mention it. I believe we need to promote and make our site easier to access by others. Well, if my main followers are driven from other sources, I think it is not a big deal to lose some WordPress readers, but it is something we should consider when we move to self-host.
Overall, I like my blog and logo. I will have other works need to do to make my site looks better. It will be a busy week for me.
